National Institute of Training For Highways Engineers
National Institute for Training of Highway Engineers (NITHE) is a registered Society under the administrative control of Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (M/o RT&H), Govt. of India.
Honrable Minister-in-Charge is the President and the Secretary, Road Transport & Highways is the Vice-President of this Society,which is advised by the Governing Body comprising of eminent and distinguished engineers and administrators of the country. The Director General (Road Development) & Special Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is the Chairman of this Body.
A collaborative body of the Central and State Governments, NITHE was set up in the year 1983 with the primary objective to fulfill the long standing need for training of highway engineers at the entry level and during the service. The Institute has been functioning efficiently for over 19 years from Delhi, now shifted w.e.f. 01.10.2001 to its own newly constructed and fully functional sprawling campus developed in 10 acres of land at A-5, Institutional Area, Sector-62, NH-24 Bypass, NOIDA (UP). The campus is comprising of a centrally air-conditioned Auditorium with capacity of 250 persons, Conference and Seminar halls each having a capacity of 80 persons, Lecture halls with 30 persons capacity each supported by a spacious Library, Compute Centre, Airconditioned Trainees Hostel (90 bedded) with dining and recreational facilities and Staff Quarters. The campus is located in the Institutional Area of NOIDA on NH-24 (Ghaziabad bypass), about 20 km away from Connaught Place, New Delhi. NITHE does not charge any course fee from the engineers nominated by the M/o RT&H and State PWDs participating in its regular training programmes. However, for the sponsored training programmes organised both for Central / State Govts. as well as Public & Private Sectors, organised either at NITHE, Noida or in the respective State, a nominal course fee is charged.
NITHE, an apex institution of excellence, since its inception, has trained 7976 highway and bridge engineers from India and abroad through its 344 training programmes organised at Regional, National and International levels (upto 30.06.2003). Participants are drawn from Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, various State Public Works Departments, Public & Private Sectors and NGOs involved in the field of highway engineering.
Besides Engineers from India, NITHE has trained considerable number of overseas engineers from foreign Government Departments through its International, SAARC & TCS Colombo Plan, programmes. NITHE has the expertise to organise training programmes outside India and few such programmes organised in Canada, UK, Australia, Bhutan, Ghana, Malawi, Nepal & Thailand were widely appreciated. The Institutes effective training strategy attracted foreign engineers to participate in its training programmes and it has organised such 37 training programmes in and outside India to provide training to 438 engineers from 21 countries.
NITHE has also developed some software packages and training manuals. NITHE has not restricted its role only to training of engineers but also extending its activities in the field of (i) working on Research Schemes of Department, (ii) identifying training needs and augmenting training facilities of State PWDs / highway organisations, (iii) undertaking projects on automation in organisations like NHAI, M/o RT&H etc. (iv) development of multimedia presentations on infrastructure sector including roads, ports, shipping, Inland water transport, telecommunications and power etc.
