National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)

The National Highways Authority of India that was constituted under National Highways Authority of India Act, 1998 and made operational in February 1995. The NHAI consists of some fulltime and some part time members. 4 part time members are Secretary (Expenditure), Secretary (Planning), Secretary (RT&H) and DG(RD) & SS. At present four posts of full time member are filled up .

The Authority has been entrusted with the projects under National Highways Projects (ADB loan, OECF, World Bank). In addition, NHAI is also responsible for the maintenance and development of Golden Quadrilateral, North South & East West corridors, providing port connectivity and some selected projects, Naini Bridge, Hapur Bypass, Durg Bypass, etc. Naine Bridge is a prestigious project sanctioned for Rs.294.7 crore. A cable  stayed bridge is to be constructed across Yamuna on NH-27 connecting Naine with Allahabad.
